Summary

The ‘Agrupamento de Escolas de Anadia - Centro Qualifica’ has been aiming to construct its action based on the impact and the importance that motivational factors play in the youth/adults. This project considers the need to increase the rate of adult participation in lifelong learning. Strategies adjusted to the interests of this segment of the population as well as the ability to innovate and motivate, keeping the adult involved in the qualification process, are decisive to prevent and avoid dropout.

From a perspective of the enrichment of human capital as a "competitive advantage" of the European Union, optimizing staff skills and acquiring new tools to enable them to perform their functions more effectively, achieving better results and allowing our organization to reach priority targets in the lifelong learning sector, is of undeniable impact for the community and counties with which we are involved.

This project conceptualizes, therefore, the implementation of an Intensive English Language Course and two Structured Courses. We sense that their frequency is an opportunity to train staff, taking into account the improvement and extension of high-quality learning opportunities adapted to the needs of low-skilled adults, in order to train the team with tools that allow them to adjust to the recognition of skills already acquired by adults.

The identification of the competences of the Staff in which to invest, arose from the diagnosis of needs that are prioritized as areas of improvement: increase our ability to meet needs to the disadvantaged / at-risk of exclusion population; promote digital skills; reduce the dropping out of candidates in the process of recognition and / or the difficulty to maintain the lifelong training courses after obtaining school and / or professional certification.

The selection of participants was carried out in order to ensure that the design of this project was based on the needs of the attendance and the individual's sensitivity to the skills they feel will have an impact on performance improvement. Attention was given to the responsibility within adult education as well as to the role in meeting the objectives of strengthening and extending collaboration with foreign partners.

As expected impact, the latent internationalization dimension of a project like this one, wants to cause positive changes in management, allowing a sustained expansion (in terms of the entities directly and indirectly involved). Reinforcing innovation and improving the quality of the services provided to the different target audiences, by broadening our professional activity in terms of internationalization and modernization, is one of the desired results.

Within the ‘Centro Qualifica’ staff, it is intended that participants in the various activities develop a broader understanding of different approaches to informal, non-formal and formal learning. Considering the heterogeneity of the target audience, a better understanding of the issues underlying Cultural Diversity and the impact of the evolution of a changing global world will have a positive impact, allowing, together with the previous aspect, a better attendance to the candidates in school / professional RVCC processes, promoting staff skills to delineate more effective / efficient strategies / tools in response to the inherent specificity of each adult who seeks us. The improvement of language skills will contribute to a greater involvement in future internationalization projects.

This investment in the acquisition / development of soft skills of our staff will allow them to involve those who have long given up investing in themselves. And so, INOVATE is undoubtedly a decisive process to embrace new challenges and think "out of the box", enabling to outline strategies more effective and adjusted to the diversity of profiles of our candidates.

Therefore, we believe that as a ultimate result, the impact at different levels (local, regional, national and international) will become the achievement of goals set by our ‘Agência Nacional de Qualificação e Ensino Profissional’ and prioritized in the EU2020 Strategy : involve more youth / adults in effective Lifelong Learning processes.

Finally, it should be emphasized that this application comes not only from a range of needs already mentioned above, but also from the desire to "get outside", to contribute to enhance the European dimension of adult education through transnational projects which promote the European citizenship based on a group culture that promotes the sharing and access to transnational projects (PEDE-2014-202).
